I having a significant error with my mouse. It is a basic Logitech optical mouse that plugs into a standard mouse access port on the back of my computer(not a USB). I am aware that the mouse isn't broken because I've tried it out on another computer and it has worked perfectly. Also, when I plugged a similar mouse into my computer, it also started acting erratically.

Here are the symptoms:
1. The pointer of the mouse automatically moves towards the right hand of the screen and I can't move the mouse away from that side.

2. The underside of the mouse constantly blinks. I cannot regain control of the mouse or its pointer.

I am convinced that this is either a driver problem or an internal problem. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a USB mouse that you can try with this computer? If you get the same results with a USB mouse then it's likely a problem with the Windows mouse drivers. If USB works normally, then you have a problem with the PS/2 mouse port on the motherboard (or possibly the drivers for that port).

I do have a USB mouse which works fine with the computer(other than the fact that that mouse is old and breaking anyway). In that case, it sounds like the port on my motherboard is on its way out. Okay, thanks.
