Mouse Hanging Up

My son's computer uses a wireless mouse and has recently starting freezing/locking up during new software installs and also locks up when he tries to run Medievel II-Total War.

I have tried another mouse with USB input and it does the same thing. Any suggestions as to how to go about fixing would be appreciated.

I don't know if it could be a driver issue or what, but has worked flawlessly until just recently.

Thanks,

My first thought is other software running at the same time, possibly in the background, ie virus scanners, spyware scanners or spyware itself like web toolbars...anything that would take up additional processor power, while attempting to run the procedures you mentioned. How recent is your son's computer?
If you think this is the case I might try running some antivirus / spyware scans manually to make sure your system is clean and see how it operates after that. I recommend AVG because it is free and doesn't bog down your computer, unlike norton or symantec.
