I have an LX500 cordless keyboard/mouse combo. Received it last Christmas. It's been working fine until the last several weeks or so, and the frequency of the problem seems to be increasing. On some days, I've been able to restart and it would work again. Yesterday, it frooze and repeated restarts did not yield a good session.
The freeze occurs as soon as Windows has completely loaded during startup. I can see that the mouse is basically operational because I can move the mouse pointer for 2 or 3 seconds during startup. But, as startup completes, the mouse freezes. This seems to indicate the basic problem is not a motherboard defect that has developed with my PS/2 connector.
I disconnected the Cordless Click Plus mouse and connected an older Logitech First Mouse+, a corded wheel mouse. It works. Logitech's SetPoint software recognizes the older mouse and shows a limited number of settings, much more limited than the Cordless Click Plus mouse.
I recently installed a new hard drive and did a fresh installation of Win XP Pro w/SP2. However, I do not believe that is related to the problem. Since installing the new drive, I have changed back to my old drive, booted up, and experienced the same problem.
I'm at a loss here. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
