Hi,
I recently got diablo 2 from a friend who didn't want it, and the cds were all scratched up. During the game the mouse will sometimes freeze for a few seconds to 30 seconds, while everything else is running fine. I can type, the game runs normally, etc. If I alt-tab during the freeze the mouse will stay frozen also.
Anways, I thought the problem was because of the scratched cds, but my friend has no problems using the same CD's. I then found out that other people had a similar problem with mouse freezes in games on k7s5a. I found out it had to do with a problem with DMA.
So I updated the mobo drivers, and downloaded a program called DMA98.exe that was supposed to enable DMA. It doesn't give any indication of working but I noticed my hard drive says UDMA 100 now, although I am not positive if it didn't before. My cd-roms however say nothing about DMA, and upon boot the ATA mode is listed as N/A. I did not try updating the BIOS.
I am pretty frustrated, obviously the mouse freezing for 30 seconds in diablo 2 is killer. Has anyone had this problem and knows how to fix it? Any advice?
Many thanks in advance,
IceGod
