I have a Logitech MX510 Optical gaming mouse which makes a faint but constant high pitched whine lately. Seems like a very strange thing for a mouse to be able to do. ;) Has anyone ever encountered this before?

It's been dropped a few times, (d'oh,) but works perfectly. No other issues or unusual signs of wear. I'm just baffled by the sound!

Are you putting it up to your ear and actively listening for it, or is it loud to the point where you can hear it while sitting 2 feet away?
If it's the former, I believe it's normal, my MX518 does the same thing but it needs to be virtually next to my ear. SPCR has an article about quiet mice that touched briefly on high pitched noises normal mice usually make.

Mouse wine? It needs cheese.

I've only heard cordless mice emit audible whines before. As long as it works probably is no big deal. A mouse is a low current device.

DarkRogue: It's fairly faint. I don't tend to notice until I pick it up off the pad. I guess I'll just continue ignoring it.

Thanks :)

I never noticed that before. I can hear it if it's pressed up against my ear. I have a fair amount of ambient noise at my computer, so I guess that drowns out the sound.
