I have a MS Intellimouse with Intellieye USB 1.0.

When I press once - and I have confirmed using the mouse diagnostic program I am only pressing once - windows (98) responds as if I've double-clicked. This means if I try to select a file, grabbing it to move to a different directory, the file opens in its associated program, etc. This occurs across all tested applications.

Nothing jumps out as strange in the mouse control panel. The left button is still set to click, click lock is off, double-click speed is medium. Are there settings that can get around this problem? Would a driver reinstall help? or does this appear to be a hardware issue?

thanks,
sathyan

there's the possibility that your mouse is malfunctioning. I had a Microsoft Intellimouse and it had the exact same problem. After using it for about half a year, all my single clicks turned into double. I swapped it on another computer, and it did the same thing. you should try putting that mouse on another computer and see if still does the same thing.

Have you checked your folder settings in windows explorer? The Intellimouse drivers may have changed that setting.

In Win Explorer menu bar: Tools>Folder Options> look somewhere in there for customize tab. In there, are settings for single and double click. I would check that first.

What jbod said.

It has been a while since I have used 98 but I thought the folder options was under the view menu. heck it could be under both. Anyhow the setting is on the defalt tab at the bottom. There are 2 check boxes one for single click with 2 options associcted with it the other is double click. Tweak ui has some mouse functions also but I don't think that would be it.
