Hello all, hope you can help. I've had this system for a while and only recently has it given me any trouble. Basically, in the last 3 or 4 days, my MS Intellimouse Explorer 3 (USB, wired) has started to disconnect and reconnect randomly. Sometimes it will disconnect and reconnect right away, other times it will disconnect and reconnect 2 or 3 times in rapid succession. On the last disconnect, my system will then completely hard lock, forcing a hard reset. I have since replaced the mouse with a brand new unit (same model) with the same problem. I've also tried the ps2 dongle which worked for a while, until my mouse would freeze then my system would hard lock. I've tried booting in safe mode to see if the problem would occur, and it still happens. Ive tried to load my BIOS defaults (I was running some slight overclocks), ive tried swapping my current ram (2x 512mb ocz pc3200 ddr ram) with a single micron 256 ddr chip and had the same problem. I've checked my temps, they're fine (23c case, 40c cpu) Right now my system is working, but the mouse has disconnected and reconnected about 4 times, however it hasn't locked up yet. I should also mention that a few times when in the BIOS, my system has hard locked.

Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Asus A7N8X w/ latest uber bios 1107
2x 512 mb ocz ddr 3200
XP pro

Your machine should NEVER hard lock in the bios, this is a good indicator of bulging and leaking capacitors, have you checked them?
