Mouse delays? PS2 OK, but USB erratic??

I have Logitech's basic optical mouse. It's a USB device with a PS2 adapter. If I use the PS2 adapter, it works flawless.

However, in USB mode, there is some initial delay from the time I move the mouse to when it actually starts to move the pointer onscreen. This doesn't happen all the time, but often enough that it's annoying.

I updated to Logitech's latest mouseware driver (I'm good about keeping my drivers up to date) but there's still the delay problem. Also, I couldn't find much from Tech Support. There was a mention of Video driver incompatiblity, but I had no luck with coming up with a fix. I notice this problem on other computers at work too (PS2 = OK, USB = weird movement). Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!!!

Its been my experience that USB is damn flaky.

PS/2 is the best way to go in my opinion, unless there is some feature you require that is only capable using USB.

But to fix your problem.. USB depends on the OS to work. How many things you got running in the background? Any other USB devices?

You could check to see if a BIOS update fixes any USB issues or a chipset update.

My system is:

W2K Pro SP2 OS
FIC AD-11 Board (w/ latest bios) with 1.333MHz TBird, 512MB RAM

I have a total of 4 USB devices (no HUB setup) each with their own port:
Nikon Filmscanner
Epson 890 Printer
MS Internet PRo Keyboard
Logitech's Optical Mouse

In the background, I only have BlackIce Firewall, Norton AntiVirus 2002, and CPUCool (board monitor). I think your right about USB being crappy for mice. The problem seems almost like the OS puts the mouse in Standby mode, waiting for activity, than when it senses movement, it kicks into high gear and behaves like it should! I guess I could stick to PS2, but this still is right. Anyone else know of a solution?
