Mouse and keyboard with long cords? USB cable extension?

I have the Saitek Eclipse keyboard and Logitech MX510 mouse. I recently moved my computer setup and my desired location for the cpu is about two feet too far away from my keyboard drawer. The cpu is only about four feet away, but with the cord winding through the desk, it is not long enough.

Has anyone has ever used a usb cable extension or could recommend a mouse or keyboard with a longer cord? I guess another option is to go wireless.

Edit: Just realized I have my 2001FP monitor to which I could connect mouse and keyboard. Would this work without affecting performance of mouse and keyboard?

Yes, connect your human interface devices to the monitor ... that's the idea, that's why monitors contain USB hubs.

Tried it out when I got home this evening and everything is working great through the 2001FP.
