Mouse and Keyboard periodically locks up

Here is my problem. When I play games my mouse will all of a sudden act like it is lagging. Sometimes it comes out of it in like 5 to 10 minutes but other times I just have to exit out of the games that I am playing. And when I exit out of the game I start to click one of my icons on my desktop and like 12 of my icons get highlighted. Then sometimes my keyboard won't respond and will start beeping at me and I have to restart my computer. I have the Asus P2B motherboard with the (I believe) 440BX chipset. I have flashed my bios and all that. I have all the current drivers for my mouse and the Intellipoint 3.2 software. My mouse is the Intellimouse Optical by the way. My buddy has had the same problem with his and we both have the same motherboard. I believe it is the motherboard that is causing this. I am not too worried about this as I am building a AMD gig machine in like another month but I just wanted to get some feedback on this
