I want to mount a thermal diode on my AMD 1600+, what is the most efficiant and safest way to mount it on the CPU?

More specificly I am wondering if i can mount it safely between the CPU and the heatsink. I am concerned that it can create an uneven heat balance and scorch the CPU.

Has anyone got any experiance with this?

Thanks for any input.

NO you cannot do that. The heatsink needs to contact 100% of the processor die.

That's how you should do it. Check to make sure if your mobo supports hardware monitoring of the AMD XP's on-die thermal diode. If it does, then you'll actually be getting less accurate readings with your external thermometer. The on-die is the most accurate you will ever (reasonably) get ;)
