i just got a new 32 inch tv and want to wall mount it. what i want to know is what it the process of installing the wall mount. i live in an apt and dont want to have the walls turn into swiss cheese to a point where its unfixable by the landlord if i move out. my roomate told me not to do it because it requires going thru studs? i know what studs are but what difference does it make?

drywall isn't strong enough to hold heavy stuff

Yup, and you can't tell (just by looking at the hole) whether it goes through a stud, or is just a whole in the drywall.

Studs = the 2x4s in the wall, the only way the TV is going to stay up there:D Anyway, Studfinders work most of the time, or you can knock on the wall moving slowly sideways till you hear a change in tone:D Pop a hole through into the stud (if you hit it you will have resistance all the way as well as wood coming out, if you miss you will only have resistance for 1/2" or so and then nothing) Make sure you level it and secure it properly, if you can't get it or don't feel comfortable doing it then pay someone to do it for you:D

Good Luck,

Wall mount it. Don't worry about holes in the wall. Just get some joint compound and mud it later on before you move out.

Find the studs on the wall. If you're not too sure, you can use stud finder which cost under $10 at most stores.

you can put those where ever you want. Just buy some long cables online for cheap.

If you want it that height, and want to put stuff below, why wall mount it? Just get a decent stand with shelves.

How heavy is the TV?
I am thinking of replacing our 27" CRT in the bedroom with a 32" LCD. I want to wall mount it too.

ahh, it doesn't look too high in the picture. I just assumed a stand that height wouldn't be too hard to find.

wallmounting is silly for that height.

i have my 27" TV (non flatscreen... old panasonic) mounted with the bottom at about my standing height. it works out best for me.

if you want something that height... go to ikea, find a nice stand, and use that.
