Mountain Bikers: Should my sister get a woman's or a man's bike?

We just got a new CRV and with it we get a Specialized Hardrock mountain bike. My sister is going to take the bike, but I'm sure other members of my family will use it.

Should she get the woman's hardrock or the man's?

Men's. There is absolutely no point in getting the women's frame unless she plans to ride in a skirt most of the time. 😉

what faustro said. there really isnt a diff. inly womens bike i woudl recomend is teh SC Juiliana but thatll cost you

men's bikes are stronger in design. for serious mountain biking, go for the men's bike. for leisure riding, anything will do.

Women's bikes are heavier and not as strong.

'Sides, with modern monotube frames, there's no "nut masher" bar. 😉

not all MTBs are mono tube. mine currently isnt. and a ton of higend ones also arnt.

unless you get some crazy FSR bike they are most likely gonna be liek a normal bike. Mine is a FSR and it has a nut bar.

look who you're asking...a bunch of guys. All guys think women's bikes look crappy, so they always suggest guys bikes.

It has nothing to do with them "looking crappy", it's that there's no reason for buying a woman's frame. They're weaker and heavier because of the dropped top tube. The only reason they even made them in the first place was so women could step through the frame with a skirt or dress on and I seriously doubt his sister will be riding with a skirt on.
