In the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still" they used the term Mount Weather Flash Facility to describe an isolated testing area where in case something goes wrong they "flash" the subject turning the enclosed area into a crematorium.

So in the movie when they are all staring at the Automaton that's about to free itself and kill everyone the flash operation is commenced and the entire chamber looks like the inside of a 20,000 hp Cleaver Brooks firetube boiler on HIGH FIRE!

Boilers have sightglasses that are TINY, this "flash chamber" has HUGE picture windows. It seems to me that intense IR energy from the fire would have killed everyone in front of the windows, ignited their clothing and raised the temperature way above fire protection limits.

Of course it's just a movie... ;)

Science FICTION.

This sightglass bothers you, but not a humanoid and his robot friend from space?

No no no no you're missing the point! Understandably it's science fiction from the top and that is accepted. Ignorance of basic physics is not really an excuse. Of course we see it everywhere in Hollywood. Do you really think the General Lee or KITT can do those jumps let alone keep running in a straight line? Obviously not!

The reality!

(better hit mute on the tannoys with that one!) LOL

The movie also had some strange shortcomings too. Why would all the VIP brains be in a chopper at ground zero at t minus zero? ;)

Glag you're back!

Thanks - that was rather unpleasant like someone took off with a shopping cart loaded with bottles filled with tincture of iodine tossing them out at random people in the market while screaming colorful metaphors. Just awful.
