There have been several threads on this forum about the original single player only game, Mount and Blade. I think at least 1 on the expansion Warband which adds multiplayer.

It is an amazing game btw, definitely try it out. I haven't gotten Warband yet but I hear the MP is pretty good and it adds a lot of improvements to the SP game as well.

BTW its available as a free trial. You can play up to level 7 before you have to purchase (I think you can even make multiple characters and play them all to level 7 if you want). Just go to the TaleWorlds website and download it.

Warband is a mixed improvement over the original. The SP campaign map is actually almost a complete game now, albeit not a great one, but at least you can win. The new animation are mixed. Lancing though, seems to be a heck of a lot harder then it should be, especially since the 'turn camera with horse' option doesn't seem to actually work.

Warband is a great game if you enjoy these types of games. WB is more of a improved and updated version of the original M&B. Its not overly expensive either like other PC games that go for $50. WB now has multiplayer. I havent tried it myself but I hear its really good. The game has a very healthy modding community and with the game is easily moddable we're going to see some really good mods and extras from the community. If you don't want to pay $30 you could wait a bit. I'm guessing in a few months, if not sooner, you'll see some good sales of it. $30 is a fair price for it though if you haven't tried the original.

This game is my current addiction. I have already planned out what I plan to do tonight in the game (I will revolt when the king doesn't give me the castle I took for him, and try to hold out with my other castle and town while he is at war with two other factions. Of course if he does give it to me, I will just have to take another one which he isn't likely to give me.)

I have been playing this game for 2 or 3 weeks now. It is a lot of fun. This is a true role playing game, although I don't agree with some of the directions they are taking.

I found the trick is to keep the target right in the center of your screen, and you will hit him. I lance nearly all of my kills, at least until all the enemy cavalry are dead, since they are the most dangerous to my army. One shot kills to Mamlukes and Vassals are real battle changers.

Used to be that simple, but in warband I keep on ending up with my guy moving the lance to the left side of the horse while I'm trying to track the taget.

Eventually gave up - Been fighting an endless war with the Khergits, and their horse archers seem to go down just as effectively with a good 2-handed sabre blow to the head. Lacking that...well, horse archery has it's uses.

I do so wish the AI factions didn't just flat-out respawn though. In several seperate battle, managed to beat off a 1000 man Khergit army headed for my city (Halmar? Oh thank you Harlaus, they're certainly not going to want THAT back) - only to have a second 1000 man army show up two game weeks later. And you don't get instant, cost-free garrisons the way the AI does.

Yeah, although I am a Kerghit, and I think we just spawn like rabbits, since I am able to recruit large amounts of troops very quickly compared to other areas. (Like 20 per village) Plus, they get to use horses at the second tier, so I like keeping them for being very mobile. Their top end units suck compared to the other factions, but they are better in the early game with my heavy cavalry style.

As for keeping the target centered, it is hard to do in 3rd person, since your torso is covering the center of the screen. You often end of aiming to the left because of that, since you instinctively use the lance as the target point. That is why you end up pulling the lance to the left at the last moment.

Hm. You know, it hadn't occurred to me for a second to try the lance in first person view. Maybe that I'll try.

The modding community is indeed very active and there are various mods out there for different types of play styles. Graphics mods, different types of units and factions, more realism, sound fx, more intelligent ai, some of them even add gunpowder units and boats. Some of them are compatible with each other as well, such as adding new units or factions as well as a better graphics mod, but you need to double check with the mod creator (many of them will state if they are compatible or not with certain other popular mods).

The main game is entertaining enough IMO but if you find that something about the game doesnt get you going, there is probably a mod out there for it.

wow, i'm addicted.

The game leaves much to your own imagination which I find very appealing and lasting.

I actually feel like crap when my veteran units I've banded with for weeks fall to an enemy sword...especially a gang of enemy recruits!

I finally got my own Kingdom. While I dropped off troops at my City and started collecting more in an effort to build up a better defense army for the expected onslaught, the Nords took back the castle I had taken and was going to use to break free of the Khergits.

It was my own fault, since I couldn't garrison it, and I sent 2/3 of our army to the opposite side of the map in preperation of leaving the kingdom (so they couldn't attack me.) I ended up taking Wercheg, and using that as my seperation point.

So I had 2 cities, 1 castle, and about a dozen villages to start with. I was about to take another city and a couple castles, but the Khergits offered me peace almost immediately. Plus, within a day, one of their cities defected to me (Ammerad), although it is on the opposite side of the map from my capital (Khudan).

So now I have 3 cities (Khudan, Wercheg, and Ammerad), 1 castle (Dramug), and maybe 15 villages. I am about 2-3 days into being a king, and I have about 12 nobles that just showed up in my castle asking to be vassals. Like a fool, I let them all in so I would have a strong army, but only a couple like me. I should have just gotten some of the 20 or so friends I had made to be vassals instead. Oh well.

As of right now, I have a Right to Rule of 42, Honor of 92, and Renown of 1050. Hopefully that is good enough to start a kingdom. (For those that know me in Eve, my Kingdom is called "Antem".)

M&B is a Blast!! I'm currently playing it on my POS with the lowest graphics settings, and no music (only way I could play it on my POS). It still is Awesome despite all my necessary low settings.

I picked up the single player Mount & Blade for $7.98 brand new in the box from Half Price Books (a US bookstore that mostly buys/sells used books/DVD's/etc.) I save big on games there.
