So I got Mount and Blade Warband last night and started playing. Am I missing something or are the very few bandits around to attack? Even if I get a quest to kill some bandits, I am having a difficult time tracking them down. Everyone I talk to says they were around this one town 7, 5, 3 hours etc, ago but when i head that way, I can never find them.

I played M&B 1 and it seemed like there were tons of bandits around and I had to run away from some. Here its the total opposite - no bandits.

Also, when should I pick a side to help? ASAP or wait a bit?

I'm level 3 and I have about 30 followers. Since I'm having issues getting money I might have to disband a bunch of them.

I have one quest completed but the dude I have to turn it in to has been captured and I can't turn it in. One time I had to go to a town to find a bounty and before I could find him, it was looted so I had to wait like a week before I go into the town again.

Sometimes there's tons around and sometimes there's not.

The track down bandits quest is a HUGE pain in the ass. People only tell you when they last saw them, and they're always on the move. Be wary of what quests you accept a lot of them are giant pains.

Doing arena matches can get you some money if you're desperate. Going to tournaments and betting on yourself every round will net you 4000 ducats. I think buying land in towns is a good way to make a steady income, but I haven't done it myself.

Yep, you have to be careful to avoid some of the bandit quests, as there's one type where they're stationary and another where they wander around and can be super elusive. However, once you are able, I recommend going to the far north, as there are Sea Raiders there who are tough as hell but drop good solid gear for you.

Also, PLEASE PLEASE do yourself a favor and install (at the very least) both Diplomacy mod and Custom Commander. They address so many imperfections and add so many functionalities that you'd wish they were default.
They're in the Warband Mod Forum here.

PS - I also can't recommend cRPG multiplayer strongly enough. It's a ton of fun... basically it's normal MP with persistent leveling, stats, money, weapons, etc, so you feel like you have a real character.

Liet has it right. Diplomacy and Custom Commander mods for singleplayer, and cRPG for multiplayer. Because of this I've now put more hours into Warband than I have any other game I currently have installed (and that's quite a bit).

Liet, what's your name on cRPG?

maybe a dumb question but how do you use all 3 mods at the same time?

any mods that make the graphics a little better?

argh! this game is pissing me off... go find this dude at this town. Search the village square...well the dude ain't here so now what? I spend more time fucking running around doing nothing than I do actually doing anything. i can't even chase down bandits - they move to fast on the map view.

Kudro, my name is EngineEpsilon, I'm a shield/pick user, occasionally cav, and I hang out with the RS guys a lot. How bout you? Maybe we know each other! :)

pontifex - iirc you just create a Module, name it what you like, and simply make each mod change to that module. That way you can create a monster mod that has 10 different mods in it, so long as none of em do the same thing. You WILL be editing an .ini or two to add lines the modules require, but those steps should be straightforward. Please shout if you have a problem and I'll be happy to help.

Oh, one of the best features of Diplomacy mod is that when you hit a villlage there is a button that says "Go to Elder", and you're immediately in a conversation with him. It's one of the best features, lol!

I think Polished Landscapes is considered the best graphics mod. It's pretty gorgeous.

Also check out More Horse and More Warhorse. They reskin the horses and add new ones... really gorgeous skins.

I think I've seen you before. I've definitely seen some RS people. My cRPG name is Kudronicus. I'm currently a gen 1, level 30 Shield + 1h, but I'm about to retire and make a dedicated 2h build. I've been practicing my manual block on the duel server but I still have a lot of work to do. Chamber blocking is still pure luck for me.

who does quests in this game?

recruit some dudes and go wreck shit on some sea raiders for easy money. Buy businesses in every town = large well trained army to wreck more shit.

Very cool, I'll keep an eye out for you!

Let me know what you think of 2h... I'm set in my 1h/shield ways and there are so many damn archers and throwers now that I don't want to even think about spawning without a shield! :)

so i have a diplomacy, crpg, and custom commander folders. what i should do is create 1 new folder and put all those folders under than 1 folder?

It looks like they have the same directories though. So do I need to copy all the files from each "child" module directory to the same directory under the "parent" module? or can i do like above and have a "parent" module and then copy each entre module to the parent?

so like:

/Warband/modules/Pontifex

and then have

/Warband/modules/Pontifex/Diplomacy
/Warband/modules/Pontifex/Custom COmmander
/Warband/modules/Pontifex/cRPG

First, cRPG should be its own module. It's purely MP! Don't merge it with anything else, and if you're comfortable later on you can add graphics/sound mods to it.

The other two will need to go into one module folder, as you're prompted to choose only one module to load when you launch.

The directories shouldn't be a problem, as the files in each mod are separate from each other and won't be overwritten. The major thing will be to edit the module.ini according to the directions provided. Sorry, I can't help more now, I'm at work.

Basically install Diplo or CC, the just follow the install directions of the other mod. Should be fine.

PS - you may be able to find a "pack" of both mods together, might make it simpler.

I believe Open Source Project combines both Diplomacy and Custom Commander, but I don't think it's been updated in a while.

I just got this game a couple weeks ago and it's an absolute blast!!

I have made lots of money on trade routes. When riding around on the world map, holding Ctrl and Spacebar is your best friend. It speeds up your movement and time A LOT!!!

Buy Iron in Curaw and sell what the people can afford in Reyvadin, Tulga, and Khuldan. After a week or so, come back, rinse and repeat. Takes 3 mins of real time while holding Ctrl Space and nets you about 3000 denars each run. Tournaments are key. If you think you can fight well, bet 100 denars on yourself in every battle and you'll walk away with 4000 denars as someone else mentioned. Unfortunately, when your army is big enough, all the bandits will run from you and they often are faster so it's hard to catch up with them. Some tips though: Increase your path-finding skill and get more cavalry units in your army.

I have an army of 65 dudes, lots of them already upgraded quite a bit but i'm still weary of sieging a castle/town on my own. I have been helping other lords in my faction in battles at times of war but don't wanna lose them all if I go at it alone. Anyone know what the right amount of troops is to lay waste to a castle on average? Thanks.

Do I have to buy weapons for all of my troops?

so I have 5 archer troops that I upgraded from recruits and when I look at their inventory, they have a like 8 robes, 1 bow, 1 dagger, 4 boots, 3 hats, and 30 arrows.

Is this just their inventory like my inventory or is this what they have to use to be equipped or what?

Your heroes you have to buy weapons for. Normal troops come with their own equipment.
