It's a fun game if you give it a chance. First off, there's no story. You go from town to town, either excepting quests, trading for profit, entering fighting tournaments, etc to earn money.

You can then build up an army for whenever you enter a battle with another group of NPCs. This is the best part of the game, as the horseback combat is very fun.

There also a multiplayer open beta, in which you can enter your Mount & Blade serial. Multi can consist of battles of up to 64 players. I only played a little, but it seems you get gold for more kills, and thus can equip yourself better the next time you spawn.

Overall, it's worth $5, but not the full price.

Why does everyone feel the need to crosspost from the hot deals forum?

Why would I go to a Hot Deals forum which primarily lists Hot Deals only for America?

I for one hate the idea that "This should be posted in the Hot Deals forum and nowhere else". I come here to read peoples opinions and issues with regards to PC Gaming and anyone posting top deals like this should be congratulated, not criticised.

I understand the Hot Deals crossposting rule for hardware but when it comes to PC Gaming, does it really bother people so much? How many people benefit from it?

I believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks each time.

The original game is an open sandlot type of thing. You can do whatever you like when you like. To some it will feel unfinished but they are constantly adding and changing things. There are a lot of good mods for it as well. The modding community for this game is quite healthy and active. The next game, Warband, releases March 30th. Mounted combat in multiplayer! Heck yeah!

I was hooked on this game for quite a while. You move around in the overworld view moving from town to town building up your army, buying gear/supplies, and getting quests. In the overworld view the game pauses every time you stop, so you could almost say it's turn based.

If you run into an NPC character, the game switches to battle battle mode oblivion style, you + your army vs their army. Normally this is limited to 25 soldiers per side with reinforcements continually coming in until one of you runs out of soldiers, but you can get a mod that allows as many soldiers at once as your computer can handle. Mine is set to 200 per side which makes for some massive epic battles.

After while you ally with one of the factions, and then it's like an empire building game. You try to capture towns/forts of other factions and take over the world.

Warband also has an enhanced single player sandbox. They implemented marriages, a ton of new missions, a new map, and a 6th faction. Lot more item types. The combat engine is shared between SP and MP, so all new combat changes apply to both modes. The battle UI is way the heck better with an onscreen overlay for issuing commands and little icons above your troops heads to denote whose armies they belong to (I think this is configurable).

Oh, yes. A lot more additional single player experience I know. I have it on my list to get. :)

I played about 5 hours of it and it's a very open game and would have played more of it but other games took over.
