Mount a CPU heatpipe horizontally????

I want to try and cool my cpu as efficiently and quietly as possible and any recommendations are appreciated.

Looking at the heatpipe technology it seems great but if my CPU isn't mounted horizontally will it still work well/as well. By the nature of the design it seems Gravity is of great importance. I've looked for references to this but as of yet none have been found.

Here's an example using Thermalright's SP-94. As long as the curved part of the pipe is toward your northbridge chip it should work well. Thermalright SP-94

It can be placed on all different cpus AMD or Intel. It runs at only 21 db, damn silent. with 6 bloody heat pipes it doesn't matter how it is oriented and it can easily be moddified to run passively if you fancy 0 db noise and no power consumption.
