the machine in question is a pentium 100, with NT4 server and serial mouse.

The mouse stopped working, and event viewer is telling me that sermous and mouclass failed to load, and when i try to manually start them under Control Panel-> Devices, i get "sermous.sys not found" or "mousclass not found" (Yes, the files exist where they should be. I even recopied them from the CD.)

There is not an APC ups installed.

Any ideas? Deja/google hasn't been much help.

If i can't get this working, the next step is to put a ps/2 mouse in. The PC isn't in front of me, but I know it has an AT keyboard connector, and no ps/2 mouse connector on a bracket. That's not to say that the motherboard doens't have the ps/2 header on it. The connector could just no be installed.

Thanks.

I take it the system was rebooted and it did not help? Try another mouse or the other comm port.
