yes i got this for 25 or something at woot.com with a free usb 2.0 54g adapter, i used the bridge for a friend's xbox setup and now he can play online and use xbmc to view media files on his computer, which is on a completely different floor

i assumed the motorola bridge would suck. turns out both software and the device can be setup pretty easily, more so than the linksys wireless gaming bridge, if i might add.

If I have the Motorola 54g router can this be used as an access point for my machines upstairs that have a hard time connecting to the router via wireless?

if you have a hard time getting the machines upstairs to the wireless network, i doubt you would have better luck with an AP or bridge. you probably will need a repeater somewhere along the way between upstairs and where the router is to re-broadcast your wireless signal

HOWEVER, i believe you can hook up the bridge in an area where you can have better reception, wire that wireless bridge to another normal switch/hub so your machines can be wired without having to wire the cable all the way to your wireless access point downstairs

these bridge devices are great.

i have a dlink 802.11b one for my xbox. the other useful thing is using them for linux where wireless drivers are somewhat hard to configure depending on what card you have.
