Friends of the family have a Motorola W315 and would like to connect to the net with their laptop (running Vista) through it. The kit the store sold them with the data cable and CD apparently only works with XP though.

Now I know about nothing about this stuff - my cell phone is an old analog which makes calls and that's about it. So while I'm sure the tech supports answer of "Won't work, return it" is BS, I'm not sure how to help them.

Pointers buddies? :)

I'm gonna go with "the tech is right". The moto 315 is an extremely basic phone, and most likely not capable of tethering. I have one with Verizon, and it's not BroadBand Access Connect capable on VZW. It's probably the same with the other carriers.
