Motorola V551

Well I took the plunge and switched over from ATT Wireless to Cingular. They offered the Moto V551 for free w/1 year contract extension. I've heard some pretty good things about the phone, but was wondering if any of you have it and your opinion of the phone.

not that particulat one..but i have the v810...the only complaint i have is the camera doesnt do well in low light...not nearly as well as the v300 i had before it

I have the V551...it should do everything you need a phone to do.

I would recommend getting Mobile Phone Tools as you will add a bit more utility to it and simplify media transfer...

V551 is a nice phone, nice enough that it is the phone they issue to all Cingular/ATTWS employees. Just a little heads up though, the phone has an odd quirk, it NEEDS to be turned off and on every few days to work properly (not all of them, but a lot!).
I recommend a bluetooth headset to go with it, maybe an HS810 or HS850. Enjoy and nice price!

do you know why? I'm allowed to upgrade to a new phone come 03/10 and was looking at the v551... my girlfriend has the v400 and despite her recently having problems with some dropped calls, I really like the phone (and I know they're similar).

I would still choose the V551 over the rest of the Cingular lineup, excluding the V3 of course. The problem with the V551 is not really known what the exact problem is, except that it has to do with the internal clock the phone has. The clock can get out of whack and this causes the battery to give false reads, and tower hand-offs to not work properly, thus leading to an increase in dropped calls. This is not just the phone, it also has to do with the phones interractions with the towers.
