Motorola V300 + T-Mobile To Go

Well, I'm looking to get a new cell phone, and what I have, Virgin Mobile (Audiovox 8610) sucks complete a$$. If anyone has this, how is it? Is the reception good, and is the sound quality good? Thanks for the input. Just a simple question.

i have a v300 with tmobile service currently. the reception and sound quality is fine. my only complaint is the quiet ringers on motorola phones. any reason you would go with a tmobile to go plan instead of their normal plans?

i thought you got better deals with signing a 1 yr contract and getting money back after rebate for using the v300 phone

I have a v300 and have no complaints other than I cannto figure out how to disable the keys on the side, so my ringer volume changes when I move around. 🙁

The reason I'm going with the "To Go" plan is because I don't use my cell phone often enough to warrant paying monthly. Since October, with my VM phone, I bought probably $60 worth of minutes. The only reason I'm changing is because VM's service sucks a$$. The prices for minutes are roughly the same, and, with T-Mobile, I'm not forced to buy $20 or more in minutes. I can buy a $10 card if I so choose.

Thanks for the quick responses. Keep 'em rollin' in.

Also, as far as the ringtone goes, it doesn't really bother me, as I will likely have it on vibrate most of the time. Also, how "strong" is the vibrate (hehe, I can't believe I'm asking that, boy, do I sound like a perv)?

I have one too. Overall I like it, but my wife and I have had a total of three go bad on us despite very light use (one had the earpiece speaker go out and the other two would lock up intermittently). Based on what I've seen from friend's phones, the camera is average.

If I had to do it over again, I'm not sure I'd go with the V300. It's got a nice screen and quite a few features, but I'd rather have a phone that excels at the basics (reliability, good phone book system, battery life, etc.) at the expense of stuff like mp3 ringtones and a camera.

Speaking of freezing up, mine just did it to me. I had a Sanyo phone for 2 years and it never froze up. I have had my V300 for maybe 2 months and it has locked up half a dozen times, so far.

i have a v300, great phone, no complaints really. and i have it with tmobile. what i like about the phone is that it has a lot of "tools" out there to do u know what.... hehehe

get it if you can. oh yeah the only complaint i actually have is the small memory it has. only 5 mb.

oh 2 other things i dont like about the phone (it's not the biggest deal...) is that it can't hold more than one # per entry. i.e. put a person's cell#, home#, etc. under one name, instead u have to enter them separately, but then again you have up to 1000 entries , and then with the tmobile sim card u can add an additional 250.

and last but not least, you can't look at the time when you're talking on the phone, there's a box covering it up. but the speaker phone works great, and you can also have the phone flipped down.

great phone if you get it for free. i got a 200 MIR back so i signed up for the 70 dollar plan for 4 months and will downgrade it to the 50 dollar plan, and it's virtually for free with the 200 dollars back.

EDIT: im not sure what you guys mean by freezing up and locking up. but recently i've noticed that when i flip down the phone hard, it'll go blank for a moment and then return. i suppose thats a freeze up as well. my advice is to not slam the phone when you flip it down.

Mine will actually freeze up and I'll have to pull the battery. Today, the T-Mobile logo on the front windows turned into a garbled mess, like artifacting on a video card, and then stopped responding.

Anyways, we got ours for negative $150 each from Amazon. Can't beat the price 😛

My wife's phone started doing it after about 4 months of owning it. The worst part was that it would freeze up while she wasn't using it, so she would miss calls and never know it was locked up until she looked at the phone (the outer display would be garbled and the phone would not do anything at all). You had to remove the battery to reboot the phone. Then it started happening with increasing frequency until finally it would not start up. Back it went.

The first refurb phone I got under warranty did the same thing a few times after having it for about a month so I exchanged it immediately. It's really frustrating when a phone goes bad since you lose any pictures plus any downloaded ringtones/games. In addition, even though I had backed up my phonebook numbers to my SIM, there is a lot of data that can only be saved to the phone which got lost each time. Very annoying.

Oh, and it is possible (but annoyingly complicated) to save multiple entries to one name. Go to a number that is stored on the phone (not the SIM) and Edit it. In the edit screen, scroll down all the way until you see an option that says "....MORE...." and hit Select. Then you get to an "Add Number" screen which will allow you to save more number(s) to that name.

I think MANY people who use this phone haven't figured this out since it's so buried; I'm not sure it's even clarified in the manual.

Wow! Thanks guys. I did decide to order the phone, and it should be here tomorrow some time. I'll post my innitial results of my "happiness" with the phone here.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

i'm experiencing those symptoms of freezing. today the phone would just turn "off" , actually i dont even know if it's really off, but i had to hit the power button for it to get back, and i tried taking out the battery and putting back in to see if it would fix it, and it just turned out that i couldnt power up the phone ...at least for like 5 min and eventually i could. it hasnt freezed on me ever since. im not sure what i should do about it...maybe i should email motorola and ask them what can be done to avoid this. i dont want to send them my phone cuz i have a lot of things on it, and dont wanna go through the hassle of adding it on again if they replace it.

cool, it works.

i actually tried this out before, but it appeared as if i had overwritten the other number, so i gave up on it, but you can actually scroll through an entry, so it's a sub entry. it's just deceving cuz it only shows a single sub entry for each entry. on my other ghetto phone, they would show all numbers listed instead of having one # per page.
