I have a Motorola V300 cellphone that's out of service for a year now. I would like to sell it and I checked to make sure it's operational. I noticed that the antenna signal is not showing any bars. Does this mean the phone is damaged? Shouldn't it at least s how some bars?

Also, when I sell the phone do I give my sim card away as well or should I keep it?

I don't think the phone would show any bars because it's not connected to any network. You can give them your sim card if you want to but make sure you delete any personal information on it before you give it to them unless you feel like sharing it to them.

I took a friends sim card which he's using with Tmobile and put it in my phone and still get no signal. I thought switching sims is supposed to work?

I think the phone's ESN has to be registered to a service provider to get any signal. As for SIM card, most providers make you buy one when you register a new phone, so whoever buys the phone probably won't need yours.

You won't get any signal bars unless the SIM Card is programmed with the IMEI number of your phone
And the SIM card has to be for the correct network .. most cell phones are Locked to one cell provider.
You can not just take a T-mobile card & put it in a Cingular phone of the same Make .. won't work
unless the phone has been unlocked with special software

As to giving the sim card to the buyer .. Do Not .. when he want's to activate his new phone he can stop
in at retail store for the provider he is using .. they will give him a SIM card (maybe 2 or 3 bucks max)
which will then be programmed by the provider with his Telephone Number & the phone's IMEI Number
