I have the Motorola V501, and one thing that really annoys me is the camera lens gets dusty really easy...

I usually carry it around in my front pocket, and after a few days the lens is just covered in dust, and the camera becomes completely useless

Anyone else encounters this?

My E815 also gets a dusty lens.
I haven't noticed any affect on image quality, but I pretty much never take pics.

I've got a v551 (maybe that's what you're thinking you have, cause i've never heard of a 501), but anyways, on mine, the camera lens is fairly inset and if i carry it in my pocket, dust does build up, but i would just kinda fold over the hem of my shirt and clean it out. but for the last few months i've been using a belt clip, so the dust isn't really a problem. there really isn't any way to avoid the dust gathering, unless you like put a piece of tape over the lens to act as a lens cap; but then you'd have to take it off before taking a picture every time.

in short, either deal with it or use a belt clip.

edit: there is definitely a difference between pictures taken with a dirty/dusty and a clean lens.... even if the resolution of the pictures is fairly low

Actually it is a V501... it's not available in the US, it's basically a V500 with a different look from Motorola...

Thanks for all the answers, I guess I am not the only person having this problem...

T-Mobile is being a bitch to replace it, so I've gone back to using my trusty T610.

First time TMO has given me problems :(

I'm on my 3rd V220

first one quit charging the battery... my wife has a v220 as well, so i would steal her fully charged battery and put my dead one in there to charge. I called Cingular, they sent a replacement

got replacement working fine, re-downloaded my ring tones, received a phone call and they couldn't hear me. The microphone didn't work on the replacement

sent me another replacement, after 2 weeks the camera part quit working entirely, just get a black screen when i hit the "camera" button, then 3 seconds later kicks me back to main screen

I have a V710. Barely use the camera though. However the camera is worse than my gfs Samsung A670.
