Actually, it is a rebadged Huawei Ascend X aka Ideos X6. If you don't believe me, you can always look up the specs yourself. Same screen size, same battery size, same on board memory, same size battery same identical shape.
This is essentially the Ideos X6, with some minor differences for appeal. The X6 had no front facing camera, or built in compass. The X6 also used the Single core, Snapdragon MSM8255, 1000 MHz, where as the Moto uses the a more effecient and CDMA friendly version MSM8655 running at 1000 MHZ, same as the Thunderbolt. Outside of those very minor differences, and the placement of the mic and speaker to be more in line with Moto phones, this is the Ideos X6 lock, stock and barrel.

It has the same GPU, the same amount of on-board memory, the same screen size, the same button placement, even has the same size battery.
Brand recognition is a huge part of phone sales, plus it was probably part of the Sprint/Moto dealings. They had to put a cheap Android onto VM, they simply agreed to slap their name onto the Ascend X.
