Motorola Surfboard upgrade?

I have a motorola Surfboard modem that is about 3 years old. They have 3 models newer than the one I have. I noticed that my modem lists it's upstream at a max of 10Mbps. The newer models list an upstream of 30Mbps. So would it be worth it to get a new one?

Also, what is the life expectancy of a modem that is on 24 hours a day?

You're not going to get 30mbps upstream unless the following criteria are met:
1) Your cable provider allows you to operate at that speed (I know of none)
2) Your cable provider runs on DOCSIS 2.0 (I think that's the standard...)

... so, you're limited to whatever your cable company allows. Life expectancy... no idea. My father's house had one running for about 3 years, still going strong.

Agreed. There's no point in getting a newer one because you are not going to get the speeds listed on the cablem modem because your cable provider is not going to give you those speeds. I don't know how long a modem will last either. I've been running the surfboard 4100 for about 4-5 years now and it's still going without any problems. Hopefully it will keep chugging along for at least a few more years.
