Motorola Surfboard in Linux

If I have a Motorola Surfboard cable modem that I am using through ethernet, do I even need drivers for the cable modem? Or do I just need to setup the account information on my linux box, hook it up, and surf away?

No drivers needed. As far as any OS is concerned, the cable "modem" is an Ethernet router. Most likely you choose DHCP to setup the network configuration, and then you can "surf away". 🙂
