Has anyone checked out motorolas new phone? SLVR V8
What a nice phone. The only turn offs are the VGA camera and the 5mb memory but i mean 17.5 days battery life. What a nice phone. I am pretty sure the phone will be for cingular because it is for a new band called 850 band as apposed to the one right now 800. The only one using this band is Cingular. Check it out let me know what you all think of it.

in a related news: Sony Ericsson will introduce its 760iL M5.

:)

anyways, that looks VERY nice.... nicer than the v3 imo.
and don't worry about the new 850 bandwidth, with 1900 it is all you need in america. consider the 850 an "extra" from Cingular.

What advantage is there to a bar design? It seems to me flip phones are superior in every meaningful way. Am I missing something?

What kind of advatage? I like bar phones because I don't like the extra step of flipping the phone open everytime I need to use it.

850=800
They just use some new math to calculate the frequency, but it's still the same.

I have a flip phone right now LG VX 6100 and it has nothing on it. It is so boring it should get 0 stars on it's options/entertainment rating.

the pivot is the archille's heel. Pray nothing goes wrong otherwise your entire phone is gone. (unless you have warranty or insurance :)) Old Motorolas are notorious in such weakness, you flip the phone open and it doesn't recognize and gives you a blank screen.

of course, the two main advantages imo are protecting the screen and preventing unwanted dials while the phone is in your pocket.

I have a hard time seeing this as anything but a theoretical advantage. I've had two StarTacs, a Motorola V60, a Samsung A-310, and a Samsung A-670, and never experienced any hinge-related problems. It seems to me it's no more hassle to flip open my phone to answer it than it is to press "Send," and unlike my friends with bar phones, I don't accidentally make calls with my phone in my pocket.
