Motorola SB5100 Multiple Users

The manual says I can connect one USB cable to a computer, then an Ethernet cable to another...

I have done so.

When I renew the IP address on the Ethernet computer, the USB computer stops working, and vice versa.

Anyway around this? Thanks!

Are you sure you read that correctly? I honestly do not believe this will work. Simple solution is using a router.

i agree with amdskip...i don't think this will work...
only way i can see it working is if your isp gives you two ip's and then the modem delegates the rest

Yeah, just get a 4-port router. It will allow you to share files, printers, and it will put you behind a firewall. All good things ;-)

I remember hearing somthing about this, but since I don't have one, I don't know how to set it up.I think it has a lite router built in like some DSL modems.

The SB5100 has a NAT inside but probably not to NAT the USB and Ethernet at the same time. Buy a regular Switch, and you will be able to use computers off the Switch SB5100.

Or Disable the NAT and get a Router. Stand alone Router will provide you with better flexibly.
