Motorola repairs - is 'replacement phone' new or refurb?

Needing to send back a Moto X pure (think the digitizer is going bad). Motorola return page says "First you ship us your malfunctioning device and then you receive a replacement to keep."

Anyone done an RMA to Motorola and know if that "replacement" is a new phone or a refurb?

Mine have always been refurb. They look and perform just like new. The only difference is that they have (supposedly) been thoroughly tested before they are sent out.
