I'm finally due for an upgrade and need one of these. What do you think? Main features i'm looking for:

Good calendar function: (which is probably the 700w?)

I want syncing with my MS OUTLOOK on my computer.

Also, critical, don't know if this is REALLY true or not, but can you use the broadband internet that comes with any of these phones, put it next to your laptop, and get internet?? For example, in the middle of the desert? Does it connect through bluetooth?

I'm getting the Blackberry Pearl here pretty soon. Maybe you could look into the Samsung Blackjack? I was debating on that one as well. It's slimmer than the Q, and yes it is 3G enabled, allowing you to use it as a modem for your laptop (through Bluetooth even! Sweet!). The Pearl can do that as well, but it doesn't have 3G speeds, just Edge.

My dad got a Treo 700p. He was looking at the 700w, but the technician at the sprint store (not the salesperson) told him of some problems with the 700w, and they were important enough (to him) to get the Palm version. I forgot what the problems were, but I believe they had something to do with e-mail. (And e-mail was the only reason my dad got the treo)

However, for making phone calls, he still prefers his 3 year old RAZR, with the dented back plate and scratched up exterior (dropped a few times, went into a pool once, may have also been ran over). So he carries both with him.

I have a Treo 700w. It hangs atleast once every 2 days and I have to pull out the battery to reset it. But I still find it tremendously useful for text messaging, email and web surfing as I am a frequent traveler. It's not as bulky as I thought it was but without the data service, it would be a POS phone. Phone quality is barely passable. The touch screen is nice but you have to use both hands so it's not quite as useful as it might seem. I would seriously consider the Q over the Treo. It is supposed to be a much better phone, except that it has a smaller screen (probably better battery life) and it is not a touch screen which, like I said, is not as big a disadvantage as I originally thought.

EDIT: Calendering is good on the Treo, but doesn't the Q support Outlook?

how about internet connectivity through a laptop with the phone??
I forget what must-purchase software there is on one of those sites (handango, etc.) you need in order to do that. I'll let someone else more experienced comment on it.

Anyway, I had the same question for which to upgrade. I looked at the Q but reviews made me think otherwise. 700p if it were up to me (coming from 650). The palm version has better video resolution than the windows, a limitation of the OS itself.

first of all A MOTO Q is not a PDA replacement. Its a smartphone so if you need a PDA got with the treo. If you just want a smartphone go with the Q.

I ditched the blackberry and when with a Q and Im so much happier.

I work in an envrionment that has all three and so far:

The 700p is prettier. As for functionality, if you have ever used any palm device, you are now familiar with it.

The 700w is nice over the Palm in that you can add your own CA's at will, which is not something that you can do with the 700P, but the graphics on a CE device look kinda grainy to me. But does that really matter? not really

And the Q's I like overall, but I am so used to a touch screen, that I keep thinking the device is broken, since it doesn't have one and uses that stupid "quick scroll" thing. Plus though it gets points for being compact, it feels cheap to me. Also, there is a good amount of confusion as to what firmware and software it shoudl run, since Moto released an update, but then pulled it back off of their website a few days later. Now their official website doesn't have any notes on it, but you can find references to it on blogs and tech forums. (We updated all of teh Q's here to the new now no longer available firmware and they work just fine. )

As for the Outlook, your experience will be almost identical between the 700w and the Q, and I personally think the Conduits by Palm stink and are not-so-intuitive to setup. If it were up to me, I think I would go with the 700w, by a narrow lead over the 700p. Assuming I had the cash to buy one, but would be fine with a Q if I only had a $100 bucks to spend.

2 of my buddies have the windows version (I have the 650 with palm OS) and have nothing but issues. Sometimes the phone just plain freezes but is still recording input. so if you go crazy trying to touch it to call someone, it freaks, so you try someone else, it tries to call a bunch like 90 seconds later and conference them all together. Go Windows.

<--- almost got the 700w, but decided his 650 was working fine.

Why would you recommend a GSM phone when he's looking for a CDMA phone?

Because GSM > CDMA?

He's on a CDMA network. I wouldn't recommend a Sony PS3 game when someone asks for a XBox 360 game recommendation.
