FYI, I got the sony ericson t637 for $-60 after 2 rebates thru amazon/cingular but beware. Amazon doesnt allow number portability for cingular right now. And also I chose 1 year contract and Media basics neither of which made it to my plan once it was set up and i had to call and get it fixed. I just hope I dont have a hard time with the rebates which dont indicate 2 year.

Cingular has a pretty nice family plan now. My nokia 6230 is awesome. And I just check with amazon, you only have 15 days to try out the phone before being able to return it.

CCityInstaller, I've got a question since no one at ATT or Buy.com can give me a clear answer. I have been an ATTWS customer and no longer under contract with them but still use their service. Now that Cingular bought out ATT, do I qualify as a new customer for the rebates associated with this phone? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what the terms of the Buy.com rebates are (i.e. are they the 180 day type that you see on other online sites or are they a simple rebate)?

Different purposes...this MPx220 is supposed to compete with the likes of PalmOne Treo series...pda replacement of the sort.

Treo > MPX 200/220

No, you count as a "migration" and will not qualify for the rebates.

What you have to understand is that Sony S710 is just a huge Rotate Opening phone with a digicam.
It's not that impressive.

It may look sweet, but that's about it.

Its kindof a double standard actually, cingular wont claim you as a customer if you have a problem or need help, but as soon as you want to switch its "hey you pay an upgrade fee, not an activation fee! well your a cingular customer already anyways right?" so there is really no way of knowing until it happens

Its a migration... your "upgrade fee" is the same as a migration fee...$18 instead of the $36 activation fee..

BUT, you're not a new customer that way, so you don't get the rebates.

Im not gonna say one is better than the other because each has their strong points, but some things should be pointed out. First is that 5,000 minutes while less than unlimited, is a moot point in your situation because if you make do with 400 daytime between two phones, you are not using more than 83 hours of n/w time.

Also, you are correct, cingulars plans may be somewhat expensive if only looking at cost to daytime minutes, however you have to realise the expense of free mobile to mobile to 1 out of every 3 cell customers, in the midwest where i am, att ruled the roost, so it is more like 8 of 10 ppl have att or cingular. Last month I talked 640 daytime, 856 n/w, and 1402 m2m and my bill was 49 pages long, needless to say, i talk quite a bit, and my plan would cost a lot more regardless of what carrier i was with without cingulars m2m.

It will be more phone for the money than a razor is, I sold mine after a month. It is definately not the holy grail of cell phones though, in my experience the sony ericsson phones are not on par with the quality of the motorolas and the nokias, hell the thing would be free in any market other than the US! ppl in korea will be laughing at us for paying $250+ for a 1mp phone, while in korea samsung sells a 5mp camera phone that doesnt leave its delicate screen exposed to danger at all times!

How so? If he buys a brand new phone and brand new service for the phone, he's a new customer. He can then transfer his old number to his new phone and cancel the old service.

Its kind of misleading... it says it is:

The cutting-edge Motorola MPx220 is Motorolas first Smartphone with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003. Fully loaded with familiar software like Pocket Outlook, Pocket Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player this phone is super-easy to synch with your PC or laptop for a true connected experience. In addition, this phone packs serious technology like Bluetooth wireless, quad-band GSM, high-speed data download via GPRS, and expandable memory up to 512MB! If you like cutting-edge technology, the Motorola MPx220 is for you!

Then it says it isnt:

Bluetooth Wireless Technology N/A

It has Bluetooth, just an error.
Linky

Btw, I read that MPX220 is one of the worst mexapixel camera phones. That's why I steered clear of it. Otherwise, it looks to be a great phone.

Negatory, he is a migration b/c technically he is not a new customer b/c Cingular owns ATT Wireless and he would NOT get the rebates. The only way to get the rebates is to sign up as a new customer and get a new phone number.

Yes it does have bluetooth, and the camera does suck...but its a camera phone. If you're buying a phone for the camera, you have issues.

Picked one up.... gracias

I'm guessing the "port your existing number" option lets you do it once you actually recieve the phone? I clicked ok but nothing further about it came up...

I really got screwed with this Cingular ATT deal. I signed up for ATT a couple months before they merged in hopes of getting more benefits with the merge. Unfortunately now I want to change my plan, but in order to do that I must switch to Cingular. This wouldn't be so bad except I bought a Motorola V600 when I signed up. Now if I want to swithc plans I also have to buy a new phone which really stinks, and they wont reveal the unlock code of my phone to me those nazis, let alone help me period until I switch over.

So now I'm wondering if Cingular will price match because I will print out that webpage and take it in and demand they give me that phone for free. Oh and BTW, if you are with ATT and choose to switch to CIngular they will give you the discounts on phones they give to new members, so is my understanding. I would just try and unlock my phone, but this shouldn't be my responsibility. Cingular should handle this itself.
