Looks like Google beat earnings and the price is back to where it was prior to this gem of a thread was created. http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/22/3904350/google-q4-2012-earnings

Motorola Mobility loast $353 million which was down from 500 some odd million from the prior quarter.

For some reason wall street seems to be pissed at apple despite 13 billion + in profit and the share price is down to $461 AH.

I guess the Motorola acquisition wasn't killing them after all?

I wouldn't say it's killing them, but it certainly isn't helping them. Motorola is still bleeding money, which is just extra cost for Google on top of the money that they paid to acquire the company. They need to release a phone that actually does well in terms of sales or they're going to continue losing money.

That said, Google still beat estimates, so it's not surprising that the stock is up.

Really now, "killing" Google? This from the same person who flames people for saying Apple is dying when their stock takes a hit... :whiste:

read something the other day that when they purchased Moto there was 12-18 months of existing def/prod planning to work through before they could fully take over. that time is about up so hopefully we see something new out of them

Motorola was a FANTASTIC purchase for Google. People don't realize that Motorola had billions of dollars in cash when purchased, that Google sold a hardware division for billions, that Google gets to use Motorola's massive debt to write off $700 MILLION a year for at least the next 6 years, etc. Motorola cost Google next to nothing for what Google got. The 12 billion dollar purchase price is nonsense. When all is said and done, Google will have spent about 1.25 billion dollars on Motorola. That is a fantastic purchase. They can lose money for several years and still be a fantastic purchase by Google.

Also, everyone needs to remember that Motorola is contracted with carriers to produce phones for 12-18 months, so we won't see the result of a pure Google run Motorola for about another year.
