Motorola Internal softmodem doesnt work in WinXP?

yup, i just installed this modem.. it sez "supports Win9x/ME/2000/XP". Plugged it in and install the driver.. no problem!
I checked the modem on Device Manager and press "Query Modem", Windows is able to communicate with it.
Then i'm trying to make a Dial-up connection.... on connceting it failed to dial and show a message like this (if i'm not wrong) : "connection failure: there may be a hardware poblem".
HELP!!!!
