Incoming as in pinging your phone to update, unless it is not.

They are staggering the update notifications, thus many of us might not receive the update today. But it appears a handful of people on a few forums have already gotten an update, and Verizon has posted update information on their website.

androidforums.com thread

I haven't received it yet, hoping I get that notification soon.

According to BoyGeniusReport, the update will have a staggered release over the course of 48 hours. Not sure if there is predictable system to who gets the update and when, I'm sure Verizon has a certain procedure to minimize system load for the update. Probably in blocks of numbers in certain regions.

manually checked for update and nada, there is a new version of google maps though.

Quite a few posters at those two forums linked have stated you will not see an update from "System Updates" unless you have already received a notification in the notification bar.

Then I guess that button is just a placebo and serves no functional purpose. Sweet.

the button is there in case you tell the update to wait (in the middle of using an app etc) then you can later manually use the search for update button to get the update.

The new Google maps updates adds the "Labs" extension that has a couple cool features and also Google Goggles came out today. Pretty damn cool image search. Kinda makes shopsavvy obsolete.

Details on the update, looks like if you didn't get it yet or don't get it tonight you're gonna have to wait a few days

Google Goggles is pretty neat. Had some trouble using it to read barcodes though.

yea I had to get real close to a couple bar codes.. then I just flipped the object around and took a picture of the front and it found it base on the logo.

Pretty cool, scanned a business card and had the option to add all the contact info.

edit: Wish we could just download the update and install it ourselves.

Woke up this morning and had the prompt for the update. I bought launch date, other than that I don't know any reason why I would be selected. Unlock screen is definitely different, not sure what my thoughts on it are yet. I think they are just trying to make it more obvious that you can ignore the call/mute by sliding from right to left. I'll post if I run into any problems.

Great. Unless it had the magical powers to turn itself on and receive an update in the FedEx box, I have to wait.

bah, humbug. I want it now!

Oh well, I guess that's 10000 guinea pigs running around for Verizon, Motorola, and Google, testing the waters to make sure there are no issues with the update before rolling out to more people.

exactly. While I'm disappointed I don't have the update yet. I'm happy others are testing it first.

I woke up this morning and found the update on my phone. Kinda felt like a kid on Christmas morning waking up and finding a present.

Haven't played with it much but the phone does seem faster. I like the new home screen as well, really gives it a modern touch and cleans it up at the same time.

new home screen?
You referring to the new Lock screen, or is there actually something different with the Home screen?

If anyone's interested in getting the update sooner, there's a thread about it here

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/25148-forced-2-0-1-droid-update-howto.html

figured I'd take the plunge on this as most people have reported sucess in that thread. I'll update on how it goes.

Update: Well, that was incredibly easy. Followed the directions in that thread, now rocking 2.0.1 It's hard to tell since I was using dxTop but the home pages do seem to be faster, the new black widgets for power/music are much nicer, going to have to wait till tomorrow to see how much battery life improved.

Took the plunge as well. Super easy.

Camera is faster, like the widgets, other stuff seems faster. Was hoping the occasional app tray lag would go away, not the case at the moment. Hopefully we'll get an app that will let us hide some of those icons.

I'm never special enough to get selected for early updates. At least other people get to test it first.

Saw the update was available to download online, and well... I have 2.0.1 and it was a very smooth process.
Definite improvements abound, the notification shade slides down beautifully, I'm using GDE and even switching screens has improved.

I'm loving the black widgets, and the facebook widget (still white) looks nicer too. I'm rocking the black power bar now, and I love it. Just looks "right". Though dammit I wish it had a Silent/Vibrate tab (instead of the sync tab perhaps?). I might need to keep using the Vibrate Widget from Beautiful Widgets, having one touch toggle for Vibrate/previous ringer volume is awesome, I use it all the time.

Okay, after reading a post about keyboard responsiveness... it does seem like the software keyboard is doing a better job of keeping up.

No multitouch, but it doesn't seem to be slowing me down. Battery life so far seems better. Normally by now the top part of the battery would be empty.
