Apply to Austin, Texas

THE FUTURE OF the Alpha chip may be in serious doubt, while
the PA-RISC processor is in the same position, but it seems that
Motorola and the IBM Power PC alliance will hold out for years
against the apparently irresistible power of Intel.

That at least, has to be the conclusion after someone sent us a job
spec for a "very senior" lead micro designer at Motorola in Austin.

It goes like this:

POWERPC SENIOR/LEAD MICROARCHITECT
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

Lead the design of a next-generation, high-performance, high-
frequency microprocessor core which balances chip area, pipeline
frequency, power consumption, and instruction-processing
efficiency to meet target market needs. Write a high-level behavioral
model of the microprocessor core. Coordinate and/or edit
architecture and microarchitecture documentation.

Specific Knowledge:
Ph.D. or M.S. plus 10 years' experience. Experience in
implementing high-performance microprocessor microarchitectures,
including logic design and circuit design. Extensive knowledge in a
wide range of microprocessor microarchitecture fields including, but
not limited to, instruction fetch and prefetch, branch prediction,
instruction decode, register renaming, instruction dispatch,
scheduling and execution, load/store, on-chip cache-memory
subsystem design, and coherent bus-interface design.
Understanding of symmetric multiprocessor design issues, including
cache coherency and atomic operations.

If you fit the bill, Motorola wants to hear from you now. We've got the
email address of the recruiter too, if you're serious. µ

Does anyone here fit the bill?

Motorola laid of at least a 1000 workers in Austin, TX, so why don't they get off their lazy butts and call some of the people they canned. Or better yet... why don't they call up some good designers who they left high and dry with their paltry raises and bonuses... and who left to go to real companies that are managed well.

Sorry about the bad ill towards MOT... I have relatives and friends who work there (and I've been in and out a few times) and they all agree that MOT is one of the most poorly run joints around.

They will need some GOOOD luck finding that designer they need.

:) This is pretty funny... just think of the number of modern processors that have been released in the last 10 years. There have been a bunch from Intel and AMD, probably a few from IBM, maybe some from HP, DEC, Cyrix. Nvidia, ATI, 3DFx, Bitboys? :), Matrox, SiS, and VIA have all made pretty complex processors the past 10 years. Then figure there's 5 or so companies that make powerful embedded processors. All told, they could probably list the number of qualified people for this job on one side of an 8.5" x 11" :).
