I have a Motorola DCX3400 Tuner/DVR through Comcast.

I'm rapidly running out of space with all of the shows/movies I'm recording and I need to upgrade the storage in it.

Has anyone tried to replace the hard drive in theirs?

Motorola claims that you can expand the storage through the e-sata in the back of the box if your cable provider will allow it. I'm going to borrow a drive from work, but if that fails I need to crack this baby open.

You can use an external drive but be aware that it will erase everything else on the drive.

I know this thread is over a year old, but can anyone tell me if you can add the expander to the Motorola DCX3400 tuner? Everywhere I read the threads stop about a year ago so I am hoping that you can now add this expander to this tuner and add to your home storage? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thakns

The ability to add an expander is totally dependant on your cable provider. The firmware is available from Motorola, but not all providers choose to enable it. Even if it is enabled, it doesn't mean it will work very well. You can check out the Shaw forums on digitalhome.ca for more information on how well they are working.

If you can't use an expander, then you can replace the internal drive with one up to 1TB. You can have many internal drives, although obviously only one can be connected at any one time.

The security bit tool and anti-tamper tab can be bought online.
