A motorist who pulled into a service station in Lincoln Park early Thursday morning found a dead man wedged beneath her vehicle.

?The driver pulled into the station at Outer Driver and I-75 about 1 a.m. because she had trouble steering and there was a body underneath,? Lincoln Park Police Lt. Robert Steele said.

The investigation was turned over to Detroit Police because the incident is believed to have happened in the city, Steele said.

The Detroit Police Fatal Squad is investigating, but the public information office said that no details were available.

Steele said the young driver, who was not identified, may have run over the man while he was lying in the street near Schaefer and Annabelle in Detroit. It is not known if the man was already dead when the driver ran over him.

How do you not realize you ran over a body? 😕

I've heard that homeless people sometimes sleep underneath cars... so she might not have run him over at all.

I can see a few different situations here:

1) Guy was under car from the beginning, meaning that steering would be the only indication.
2) Girl ran over guy, did not notice. I can see possibly not seeing a guy lying on the road, but you WOULD feel something big hit your car.

Added #3 for you.

If the quality of the road is rough, she may not have felt the difference between a pothole and the body.

Catching a leg would feel different than a torso.

The article does state that it was early AM

That's a good point. Detroit has some godawful roads.
