Personally, if and when I get a bike, I plan on wearing a helmet 90% of the time. But I appreciate the right to do so without going to jail.

Interesting Article about the cost to society of motorcycle accidents

Yes I agree. I don't think they should be mandatory past 21 years old. I would wear mine 99% of the time anyway but occasionally...no.

And if you get into a big accident I and other tax payers should pay for your stupidty?

My dad was in a bad Bike wreck, he went THROUGH the side of a minavan with his feet still hanging out the side of it and his head stuck under the seat. They had to cut the roof off, then the side door, then the seat he was under. He was still hurt bad, BUT because he wore his helmet he lived. BUT his bills are OVER $25K and he never spent one night in the hospital. Luckily it was not his fault but after a year of treatment the insurance companey has not paid one dime.
If he had not worn his helmet he might have not lived or worst turned into a Veg. and cost 10's of thousands more.
And motorcycle insurance is cheap if all you get is liabiality, as bikes don't usually do that much damage. Now full insurance is another story. And as someone that is still in College I will only be getting liability for my bike. So if I get hurt bad WE ALL (tax payers) will be paying for my medical bills. That is why the goverment requires me and everybody else to wear a helmet.

I believe that you should have the right to have your head meet the concrete if you want too.

Why 21? If 18 is old enough to participate in deciding who leads this country then it is certainly old enough to choose whether or not to wear a helmet IMHO.

The tax payer thing really doesn't work for me. I think all the fat asses cost us a hell of a lot more every year in taxes than a few brain dead bikers ever could. This is suppost to be the land of personal freedom and you should be alowed to kill yourself in any stupid way you want.
