stealership is asking $6600, i think thats a lil high, as the new monster 695's are going for 7400, and they are 07's.

would you feel that $6k is reasonable, if they throw in a helmet, and gloves and frame sliders?

or would you look for lower.

its such a sexy bike

Did you drool all over the 620 in front of the sales guy? I read if you show emotion when buying things, the sales guy will jack up the price. You're suppose to go into the dealership like you don't wanna buy the bike, piss all over the bikes like they killed your family, and lowball the sales guy like he's giving the bike away for free. Don't quote me on this, I'm just reciting what the car experts are saying about their car buying experience.

he looked it up and showed me the page.

the bike originally was 7400, theyve dropped it down, and what not, the price was on a printout of all the bike prices, so he didnt just bullshlt it

That OTD or just bike price. How much they going to charge you for tax/title/setup fees?

setup fee is included

this is before TTL, which is like 6.25% in my county, and title isnt that much, i forget how much though.

i might try and see if they will throw in a hard case to mount on the bike as well.

but i need to do some more math to make sure i can afford it :D

Won't this be your first bike? Why are you buying a new bike for your first bike?

I think buying a new bike for your first bike is a mistake. I think buying a Ducati Monster 620 for your first bike is an even bigger mistake. Spending 6 grand on something you're going to drop at least once is crazy. Not to mention insurance will be higher for it.

If you don't want a 250 or 500 Ninja, then a Suzuki SV650 would be a good start. They're not all that bad used (~$3500).

I was actually going to go the SV650 route for my first bike, but I found a good deal on my Honda and bought that instead. At $650, I'm not going to be as upset when I drop it. Plus, I have a lot more money for gear. I'll probably spend almost as much for gear as I did for the bike.

sorry but unlike car dealers Bike dealers do not negotiate at all.. the prices posted are what you will pay...

the pricepoints are set and there is no dealer mark up like in cars.

you will find except on dealer end of the year closeouts that all dealers have the same price.

This may be true for Harley and some Italian bikes, but not at all true for Asian bikes. It's quite common to deal on Hondas, Yamahas and Suzukis. I did it for years and know that it's still done.

Not true at all. You can get them to come off of their fees and prices differ from dealer to dealer. IT is not that much of a difference, but each place will quote you a different Out The Door price, which is all you need to concern yourself with.

The big dealer in town routinely has deals on bikes so you save money off the MSRP. They're selling CBR1000RR's for $2100 off MSRP now.

MIKEMIKE, I think Cycle World did a comparison of that Ducati versus a Suzuki V-Strom a couple issues back. I could check when I get home if you're interested. I personally like the way the V-Strom looks a lot better. The Ducati bike is kind of ugly in my eye.

If somebody offered me a brand new ducati monster off the show room floor right now, I would pay $2 grand for it. That's assuming I'm not in the market for a bike right now (well in reality I am always in the market for one, but I'd buy nothing over $2k, and i'd only buy that for $2k assuming it was brand new).

I'd love to find a mid 90's enduro bike (500cc) or so for $800. I'd buy that. I need a winter beater bike.

If it really is a first bike, even though you don't like used, I'd throw in another recommendation for it. What's been done to it isn't of terrible importance so long as it runs, seeing as how you likely won't be keeping it for much longer than 6 mos. to a year.

That being said, I also wouldn't recommend the first bike be a Ducati. I learned on one, and don't suggest anyone else ever do the same. They're great, but can be pretty finicky.

The Monster 620 has never been worth 7k+. Just look over at the Ducati monster board, (ducatimonster.org). Lots of monster stuff, forums, clubs, etc. 6k is reasonable if they throw an Arai corsair or similar ($500+).

SV is a nice bike. Makes more torque than the 600SS, (down about 40hp though) so more usable around town. The stock suspension is terrible. Most people swap either for heavier springs/oil or a supersport front end and either a reworked gsxr shock or fox/ohlin rear.

Hey and for those guys that like small displacement beginner bikes check out the Piaggio MP3 250. Probably the best beginner bike in the world. Google it. I want one.

I'd say $6000 OTD and they should include the first service with the price as well.

I disagree. I know for one that my old man negotiated the price of his brand new CBF600.

Look up a used one with low miles and go from there. Bring in your findings and if they are hard up for a sale will make something happen.
