I test-drove a Suzuki SV650 tonight ('99, 13k miles, asking $3500) and the owner offered to throw in her Fulmer helmet. She said it cost $150, so it's obviously not in Shoei or Arai territory, but is it still good quality?

its okay.. not a bad helmet. Just make sure its got a Snell cert on it.

SV650 i dont recommend because it tends to wheelie.. but its an awesome bike.

I guess I should ask: other than how well it fits, what makes a helmet "good"? Why does a Shoei helmet cost three times what a Fulmer helmet costs?

materials and design. The materials can be cost of the helmet. Some cheap helmets have styrofoam as teh crash liner. Expensive ones have other stuff. The more expensive helmets are lighter and have better materials and better venting.
