heh the little respect I had left for MT went out the window with that decision. Really, a car this unreliable from a company who doesn't back their car up is car of the year?

Rules are that the car has to be new or significantly revised.
Contenders: Dodge Challenger, Lincoln MKS, Nissan Maxima, Pontiac G8, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Acura TL, Acura TSX, Audi A4, BMW 135i, Honda Fit, Hyundai Genesis, Jaguar XF, Mazda6, VW Passat CC.
I kind of agree. The GTR is an engineering masterpiece, but Nissan's philosophy behind selling the car is wrong. The earlier GTRs were loved because they were so easily modified and became street heroes. With Nissan not wanting you to modify this one, it kind of gives it a sort of snobbiness.

1. SUPERIORITY.

2. SIGNIFICANCE.
How well does the vehicle do the job its maker intended it to do? And how does it impact or change its particular market segment, influence consumer perceptions, and transform product development trends?
3. VALUE.
How does each vehicle compare against its direct rivals? A vehicle with a low sticker price might not be as good a value as a more expensive vehicle that delivers outstanding performance, quality, and functionality.
I would say the GT-R was a good choice.

Hmm the Honda Accord hasn't ever won MT Car of the Year and it's been on C&D's 10 Best list for 22 of the last 25 years? BMW 3 Series, which has been on C&D's 10best for 17 out of the last 25 years, doesn't have an award either?

I used to own a 1986 Nissan 300zx. TBH, it drove better than my new Honda Civic. Nissan is known for their engines.
I think the car deserved to win. It beat out Porche in terms of track speed, and does 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds. To me, that is extremely impressive.
