Seems fairly normal to me. Are your engine mounts broken or cracked?

Also, how did you get the video exactly?

LOL, awesome. What camera? Pretty sure my PowerShot cameras wouldn't pick up the engine noise anywhere near as well. Interesting though.

If you want to do it again, I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like when you run to redline in 1st, then suddenly let off the gas without pushing the clutch in. That should provide the most movement.

Makes me want to take my hood off and go take some videos. My rear engine mount is completely shot, I bet my engine is much floppier than yours. :D

Its a 'Pentax Optio WP 5.0' that I bought way back in 2004.

stock MS3 rear mount lets the turbo slam into the firewall during stuff like that. POS.

Yeah, engine sounds nice.

Meh. Doesn't really look that bad, but I bet the new engine mounts will make a big difference both visually and feel-wise.. Exactly how bad are your mounts?

ps: revmatching is your clutch's friend ;)

I dont know if its your MIT brain overpowering me or what, but you are talking way over my head. I still have no clue what your refering too. Pointers? quarters? Stuff? Do you know how I can fix this problem? And if you do, can you explain it to me in lay man terms? Just pretend Im a five year old.

Yeah, engine sounds nice.

Yes, an art I have yet to learn: the Double Clutch downshift. Definitely looking forward to the new motor mounts. Guys say they they get an improvement in response because all the torgue is then put into the drivetrain. Downside is vibrations - but I dont give a crap about that. I just want response.

Nah, I've cleaned it so many times with my shirt that the glass is all scratched and schmutzed. dont know what to do about that.

It's not horrible, IMO, but I'm the guy that fixes stuff with bricks.
I'm of the same mentality. I like to be absolutely sure that I wont need to fix something twice if I dont have too.

OP, looks like quite a bit of movement, might be deteriorated just due to age, I vote change 'em (hopefully it's not to hard or the MM's don't cost too much$). On the plus side the motor sounds really strong!!.

A teacher of mine had a broken mount. He strapped the motor down with some chains. Sure it rattled, but problem solved.

I'd say replace em just to be safe tho.

BTW, engine sounds nice

Seems normal to me honestly.. I've had bad dogbone mounts and they were actually so bad they clanked on the metal (rubber fell apart and fell out) But that doesn't seem unusual.

Yeah about normal, maybe a tiny bit more but nothing horrible. That being said, with all of the other work you're doing on the car.. Go ahead and replace them unless they look brand new.

It looks pretty bad to me. That engine is moving 2-3 inches front and back. Not good. Not to mention, it's an 85 MR2, those are probably the originally mounts. If they're easy to get to, replace them before you bust a half shaft or screw up your CV joints.

IMO it's not bad unless it's slamming in between your firewall and radiator support every time you touch the gas

Then you've got a problem

I highly doubt that's normal. I may have missed it, but have you replaced them? With all of the work you have done, I would think you have. If not, i would replace them given the mileage on the car. I would guess someone makes poly mounts for those cars, I would stick to stock replacements - I don't care for the vibrations poly lets through.
