Moto X seems cool but the specs aren't on par with the Nexus 5. Unless you want the better design I believe the Nexus 5 is the clear winner in terms of specs and pricing.

People went over this a billion times. Specs means nothing when your battery is half dead from sitting on the desk for half a day.

Well if your ROM uses mpdecision (mpd) in it's kernel your phone uses only one core at 384MHz when the screen hasn't been touched for a couple of seconds. I managed to get 2 and a half days of battery life out of my Nexus 5 when I did some battery saving tricks. But the screen is the biggest battery killer.

Haven't used the Moto X, but the N5 has fantastic battery. Much better than the HTC One (ATT stock), which has a smaller screen, slower CPU, and same battery size. Everyone's usage will vary depending on how you use the phone, but in my experience I was able to get a good 8-12 hours more life on my N5 compared to the HTC One (with same usage conditions).

Plus, there is just no downgrading from a 1080p display to a 720p display. I'm definitely sticking with the N5/One.

Explain why my HTC One is perfectly fine with either the stock ROM + Carrier IQ or GPE/unbloated compared to my co-workers N5.
It's been widely reported that the N5 is having battery issues. Widely reported. I can't recommend that phone to anyone based on your anecdotal findings.
I do know enough to stay away from the N5 for a while, because it's reported everywhere as being average at best.

I figured they would either do this, or just make $349 the permanent price.

i think this is right, this should be a $349 phone. its going to be hard for them to raise the price after this, the phone will be even more obsolete and harder to sell after xmas, and people who want it will just be waiting for the next sale

I traded a Note 3, which is considered to be one of the most powerful spec'd phones out there right now, for a Moto X and didn't regret a thing.

I traded the Moto X for an LG G2 last night and I actually miss the Moto X still.

As others have said, specs aren't everything.

Odd, I paid 267 shipped ON contract for my moto X and love it; feel it was worth every penny... bought a N5 as well; kind of spur of the moment thing and being a nexus guy from the N1. the moto X is the better phone. My N5 is sitting on my counter unused.

the N5 has a bigger screen going for it -> THAT IS ALL. Unless you go side by side, the screen on the moto X is not lacking at 720p. and at that point, only text looks a bit crisper on the N5. for the overall feel of the phone and and bigger foot print, it's screen isn't good enough on the N5

watch at 3:40 and tell me which one looks better, not just bigger

Not quite a fair comparison - different display types. Having said that, I know what you're trying to say. The Nexus 5's screen is a big let down, especially coming from the HTC One, which produces more accurate and vibrant colors. The N5 isn't perfect - the speakers suck, the camera is inconsistent, and the build quality is flimsy. But for $349 off-contract, I am willing to acknowledge they do have to cut corners to keep price down, so it's not all that bad.

Just today I switched back to my One as a daily driver, and boy did I miss it. I rooted it, installed a new ROM, and I missed the excellent display, stereo speakers, much better camera, and excellent build quality. I wish Google offered two Nexus phones - one low end and one high end. I guess the GPE versions of the One/GS4 (+ Moto X) are the closest thing.

I switched from One to Nexus 5, only thing I didn't like was the quiet speakers. Everything else was okay. I didn't find the nexus 5 to be particularly flimsy... pretty solid and light. One was just heavy. Display is also give for me, the colors were fairly accurate and on par with One. (Nexus 5 uses the same panel as HTC DNA)

They already do.
It's called the Moto X Developer edition.

So I'm thinking of replacing my Nexus 5 and Note 3 with a Moto X. I've been using a Note 3 for a few weeks and just got a Nexus 5, but both are kinda the "same ol" for me meaning yes, they have "buttery smooth" performance etc. but no new feature that would change my daily routine. I'm thinking the "always on Google Now" and "Active Display" may make things more convenient for me day-to-day; but maybe I'm just buying too much into the marketing hype.

I'll probably get a Moto X Developer Edition tomorrow if I can snag one from the website. I believe both the Moto X Developer Edition (which comes with 32GB storage, unlocked bootloader, and unlocked phone) is the same $399 as the T-Mobile 32GB version that can be customized via Moto Maker. If so, I'd probably opt for the Developer Edition just for slightly faster OS updates.

Anyone switch from a "superphone" like Galaxy Note 3 and Nexus 5 to a Moto X and feel that the features are more than just gimmicks?

I will be doing the same comparison once my Moto X DE arrives. I ordered a GSM version on Monday and will be giving it a run vs. my Nexus 5. I still have not received shipping confirmation, but did receive confirmation of the order and an invoice.

The Moto site does state that it may be 7 days before the device ships due to high demand and then 2 day shipping after that, so I have no idea when it may ship at this point.

If i want to use Straight Talk via ATT do i HAVE to get the AT&T version or does the Tmboble GSM version also work? If so is one better than the other at all?

Let me know if you end up deciding to keep the Nexus 5 and want to sell the Moto X DE :)

One or the other will go but the only way I have found out what phone works best for me and my use is to actually buy them and try them out for a week or so. Everyone's use is so different that you only get a flavor of what a phone is like by reading other people's reviews. When you actually carry and use it for at least a week then you can really make an informed decision.

N5 is awesome so far but always wanted to try the X so I'm excited to give it a go.

Yea, I totally agree. Only way to know for sure is to buy one and try it out for a few days.
