Moto SB3100 to SB5120 Cable Modem upgrade = HUGE difference!

I had a spare Motorola SB5120 modem and decided to upgrade my old SB3100 today. Before I was getting about 5000kbps down and 1500kbps up (which I was quite happy with); I ran a speed test after the upgrade and to my surprise got 10000kbps down and 1500kbps up! HOLY COW!!! Pics here for proof:

New modems run about $60 new on Newegg, although your cable company might have a good upgrade or leasing program available. Anyway, just wanted to share. I've had so much success lately with my network upgrades, I'm just estatic :laugh:

Dunno, didn't even know Cox had multiple levels of service, although I know others do. And not Photoshopped...those links are directly to my speed tests on the speed test website

Your old modem probably couldnt handle their speed boost thing. I forget what they call it exactly, but basically they will burst data at up to double your plan for short periods of time. Works great for fooling speed tests and short downloads.

Yep, I have comcast, 6/384 and get speed test near 18/2.

The SB5100 is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem, dunno, but going to guess the older model is only DOCSIS 1.0, so hence the speed diff.

winner. Or a 10 Base-T ethernet port that is not a 100 Base-T.
