Unlimited service can be had for $10/mo plus taxes (taxes for me were like $4).

This is actually cheaper than service from most flip phones. My last flip phone I was effectively paying $30/mo (family plan) and it wasn't even unlimited.

Wow. Worth a look. Been looking for a cheap alternate to what I have now. Wonder what cell coverage is like.

I've been on Republic for a while. The Sprint factor is a let down, but mitigated by the WiFi calling and texting. When you connect to WiFi, it doesn't matter what the cell coverage is, because all your calls, texts and of course data are sent over WiFi. Republic also includes roaming onto the Verizon network when neither WiFi nor Sprint are available, albeit with only 100MB of data on Verizon per month.

I had their Moto Defy XT which wasn't too pleasant to use, but it got me accustomed to their network while I waited for a 32GB version of the Moto X to be available (just received the X this week, much much better). Now I'm on the 10 plan with the X with no cell data.

How is the Moto G itself? I heard it has a aggressive WiFi algorithm where it goes to cellular too often.

Sprint's network, speaking from personal experience, has gaps in coverage even when the official map says there are none. This only happens in rare areas but it occurs consistently once there.

Thew newer Republic Dashboard App on the X and G allows you to adjust the call handover. You can designate WiFi networks which should never handover, or enable manual handover for instance.

I never bothered adjusting any of that. Occasionally I will notice that a call that started on WiFi transitioned to Cell by the end, if I check the log. It's transparent though, and hasn't upset me. Maybe if your cell signal is weak, call quality could degrade after leaving WiFi, but I haven't run into that around Philly. There's no talk limits or anything, so nothing negative happens account-wise if a call is on Cell.

so, for $5 per month, i get VOIP service. i currently use vonage, but am wondering if i should switch over to republic. i can buy a Link2Cell Bluetooth phone set and then can place cordless phones around the house.

the only downside that i see is that republic doesn't have international calling, which i rarely do. i guess i can use calling cards to make international calls. anything else that i am missing?

I've only been on Republic Wireless for ~2 weeks, and have been very surprised at how well this works. The Moto G is a solid capable phone, and the service has been rock solid as well. Between wifi/cell switching as well as the free roaming, I went on a 9 hour round trip from central Florida to Georgia and back without a hitch. Great price for great service so far! I don't think there's a better deal to be had.....

Been using for about a week. I'm on the $10/mo plan and so far it has been great. Can't really comment about roaming since I've only been mainly between two locations, work & home. With both location supporting wi-fi. It's certainly the cheapest plan I've been on.

almost cheaper. i confess that i'm still using a motorola V170 with tracfone at $19.79 for 3 months ($6.60 per month). :$ i ordered a Moto G on Sunday. i should get it today. if all goes well, i can retire my V170 and drop vonage too.
