Can you really use an unactivated VZW prepaid phone for the $300 trade-in deal? Of course just around the time I decided I really should get with the 21st century and get a smartphone, they stopped subsidizing phones, so this would be a Very Good Thing for me if it'll work, but the website wants a device ID before it'll get through the whole trade-in "estimate" check...

ETA: Eh, never mind. Thanks for posting. I'm trying to dig through a really long SD thread to figure out whether VZW is accepting them as trade-ins, but then figured for $10 I'd just buy one and give it a shot. I'm not even sure the $300 trade-in deal will last long enough even to try, but if it doesn't work out for whatever the reason, I can always return it, or keep it as an MP3 player... (And just for reference to anyone else reading this, the return period for cell phones is not extended for the holiday season, it' still only 14 days, though it is from the day you receive it, not the day you buy it.)

Despite myself, I ended up venturing out to Best Buy this evening. Too late of course for the $149 49" Toshiba, but I did kinda figure people wouldn't be beating down the doors for these phones, so I might pick up another one in person. Well, NOPE. Apparently they were handing out tickets or something in line, well before I got there, so no 2d Moto E for me.

On the other hand, it was interesting experience, watching people run around like chickens without their heads buying stuff they mostly could have bought online, for the same prices, with free shipping. And not especially great prices at that. Go figure!

I think I'm going to not avoid irritating the BF-gods and just stick with my 1 at this point, but it seems to back, yet again... ;)

ugh seems like fry's is having problems. there's a slickdea thread about people not being able to apply their codes while logged in.
Oh, didn't realize it was a promo code deal. I didn't even try entering a code (or rather digging through my emails to look for it) so: "never mind.";)

I don't see why not unless your concern is the Verizon branding on the phone? IMHO these are great media player/remote control/light gaming devices and of course you can always trade them in as well. I love that it's basically pure Android Lollipop and accepts mSD.

but if it doesn't work out for whatever the reason, I can always return it, or keep it as an MP3 player... Thank you for bringing that to my attention, I wasn't aware they're excluded.

How many did you buy? Now I wish I had purchased two, oh well $10 ain't too shabby.
It's in stock again, for anyone who wants to try. Just picked up 2 of them ... so much cheaper than standard MP3 players, let alone devices running full Android.

I'm guessing Best Buy will handle it like they did their iPad sale last year.. periodically restock some throughout the day.

BB HQ has some weird tracking of how many phones phones purchased and cancels orders if it exceeds a certain threshold. In the past year I've only purchased maybe 5-6 prepaid phones from BB. I saw this go back in stock about an hour ago, ordered 2 and checked out as a guest. An hour later my order was cancelled.

I called a local BB Mobile store and they have plenty in stock. I'm going out into the real world to grab some lunch with my wife and brave the crowds, if I don't make it back alive it was fun.

This phone is locked, right? I can not use this phone on ATT or Crickett, correct?

In terms of using it as an mp3 player or wifi "mini-tablet", I wouldn't care about the branding at all, I'm just not all that interested in those potential uses of it. Basically, I just don't have any devices (for the time being) to control with it at home, and I rarely want an mp3 player except when I'm going "out" far enough to carry a backpack or briefcase, at which point I invariably bring along my Kindle. It's a godsend on the subway or buses, but I'm not much of a walk-down-the-street-with-headpones-on kinda guy. Though if it turns out the screen resolution is good enough to actually read a book on it, that would be pretty cool, although even if small fonts are readable, I read very quickly and a small screen would be kind of a PITA.

But realistically, I bought it primarily to see if I could in fact roll it over, so to speak, as a trade-in since I'm planning on finally getting around to giving up my trusty flip-phone and joining the telephonic 21st century. And of course I decide to do this just as VZW decides to ditch the contract/subsidy system, so now I'll have to shell out real money even though I expect to be with VZW long enough for a contract to have been irrelevant to me...

It just seems to me a little strange that VZW would accept their own, unactivated/unused PP phones as trade-ins. I mean, they still won't let you activate unused PP phones on postpaid plans, even now that there are no more contracts...

From what I've read so far on SD, it would seem that more people that not have been successful trading them in, but apparently not everyone has, so it's still not clear to me if there's actually a formal policy or not... But like I said, it seemed like a good $10 bet, so...

First of all this phone is no longer available online but it is at some BestBuy B&M locations assuming they're still in stock.

Yes you can use it on a GSM carrier with a little tinkering.

Got email today saying it's back-ordered and I shouldn't expect delivery until sometime between 12/10 and 12/29. No biggie, I just hope VZW's trade-in deal lasts long enough for me to give that a shot...

And then another, today, cancelling my order on the grounds that they were unable to obtain any more of them. Anyone else, too, or am I just special?:\

They did give me a $10 credit toward a future purchase - that expires on January 1, 2016. Since anything else I might conceivably buy from them before then with no more than an additional $10 "discount" is likely to be overpriced by at least $10 to begin with (ie, cables, power adapters, flash memory), I guess I'll just browse the cheap DVDs that ship for free so as not to lose-it-rather-than-use-it...

Nope you're just special, my order of ONE shipped and was received today. Still wish I had ordered two :(

But then the entire order may have been cancelled.

Yeah, that figures, though obviously you did order earlier than I did, since I didn't even know about the deal until you posted, and then spent a little while Googling the phone before I actually hit "submit"...

Best Buy is definitely not on my "nice" list right about now...
