Am giving daughter & her BF used Droid's (first gen's), first one should be delivered to me in a couple of days. Am moving family to pre paid through Page Plus.

They're both in college and have some tech skills, they have been using Gen 1 iPhones on TMobile for a couple of years. I'm a thousand miles away, and trying to do tech support for them over the phone is pretty painful.

Which custom ROM do you-all recommend I install? Or should I just leave the stock ROM on them? My favorite for the Incredible so far is SkyRaider.

id just leave it stock with root.

any of the bigger roms, CM, SS, BB, and sapphire would be fine if you wanted to go that route. but prob best to let them fuck with the phone on their own

Stock with root. I have the unofficial Froyo leak on my wife's phone, works fine. I should probably update it.

Just whatever you do, make abso-fucking-lutely sure you DISABLE 3g data and educate them on how to use it. I'm assuming you're going to use one of the Talk'n'Text plans... they're going to have a nasty surprise if they don't realize how it works and their phone decides to leak data past their cap. Once that happens, they fall off the Talk'n'Text plan to the basic per-minute plan until their balance runs out, which at the per-KB rate PagePlus uses doesn't take long.

I did that on the first day, had installed a new ROM & forgot to turn off data, and burned through the 50mb in minutes

Will be sending them some screen prints of how to ensure they shut down data. They're both in college and around WiFi all the time, so the 50mb isn't a problem...

Any of the custom roms include Hulu like SkyRaider does?

imho avoid flash like the plague if you worry about battery life... on ANY rom.

I use tv.com and get plenty enough shows to watch there.

If you really want a custom rom, I'd recommend Sapphire. But don't use the 1000 mhz kernel, step it down to like 800 or 600 to keep things cooler and more stable.

I would recommend rooting though. Just for sprecovery or clockworkmod recovery and Titanium backup. That way you can have them make images of the phone and backup apps just in case something gets screwed up. It's such a savior to be able to flash back to a nice clean, working image if something gets jacked up for whatever reason on the phone.
