Motion Sensor PC Camera?

Kelemvor

We have a theft issue going on so we want to get some sort of little cameras we can plug into a laptop and let record. But we don't want it to jsut record all the time but only when something is moving.

Is there the camera that would support the motion detection stuff or the software that does the recording? Or both?

I'd think it'd just be the software that would monitor the feed all the time and only bother writing it to the disk if something was moving but I've never actually used a PC Camera before.

Also feel free to recommend any cheap ones you might have used that work well.

Thanks.

I had a Creative Webcam Go (cheap webcam) that recorded upon sensing movement. Was about three years old. I would imagine that just about anything current would have similar capability.

[edit] A google of "Motion sensing webcam" brought up a sampling from quite a few vendors with some of them specifically mentioning motion sensing in regards to "Security".

You can pick up a pretty nice Logitech webcam and there is freeware software on the internet that does the motion detecting stuff. You can set the sensitivity on it and all that too... I can't remember the utility as I've been out a webcam for about three or four years now 🙂

Yeah I had software that came with my webcam back in '99 that performed motion detection. Have a look around review places for it.
